Uncontrolled Developments Hamper Work On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway..

The Federal Government has raised concerns over the spate of uncontrolled developments on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He says it is seriously impacting negatively on the construction of the road.

Speaking on the rate of work along the Mowe-Warewa section of the road, the Federal Controller of Works in charge of the Western Zone, Godwin Eke, lamented that uncontrolled developments have impacted badly on some drainage programmes on the road.

Eke, who debunked insinuations that the contractor handling the project has changed some of the specifications, said the expansion of the two lanes to three lanes on either side of the road still remained.

He, however, confirmed some adjustments on the drainage system due to what he called incursion on the roads by some developers.According to him, in some of the portions, there is no way to channel the water because of undue development on the road, hence the adjustment.

These undue developments along the corridor, especially within Ogun State territory, he said, had remained a big issue with the contractor trying to find a way around it.

One of the pitiable things, he noted, was that some of the developments had approvals, which are impacting on construction work.

The controller, who gave the assurance that the contractor would deliver on time as scheduled, appealed to the media to sensitise the public on the need to keep to development plan. He, therefore, reiterated that drainage specifications, which include construction of trapezoidal drains and rectangular drains, would be done despite the challenges.
