Tiwa Savage, Team Embarrassed Nigerian Journalists At Music Foundation Launch

Nigerian journalists who were invited for the launch of Tiwa Savage Foundation launch were not only humiliated, embarrassed, but bullied by both bouncers, and management at the venue of the event.

Journalists, including veterans were treated with a form of classism as they were separated from other people who came for the event, and asked to wait at the gate for hours.

In a more humiliating way, past 6.p.m, journalists who were told they cannot enter the hall where the event is being held were given media tags and polo bearing Delborough Hotel and the polo were retrieved when they were leaving the venue.

The event was slated for 5.p.m at the Delborough Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, and, while some journalists got there two hours before the time. As at 5.p.m, they were told not to go into the premises while others were going in without being harassed and accorded. A female security guard threatened to smash the phone of journalists recording guests coming into the venue of the foundation’s launch.

Many of the journalists left the venue after waiting for hours and not allowed to speak with music stars, stakeholders and others at the venue.

When the journalists finally gained access to the premises, they were restrained and threatened further by a lady believed to be one of the management of the event, warning that she will obstruct cameramen.

The journalists questioned if foreign journalists would be treated that way and why they were mandated to put on branded polo. The bouncers also threatened to smash the phones of journalists who dare to capture the arrival of guests.

In her post, This Day journalist, Yinka Olatunbosun, wrote: “Invited and Disgraced: Tiwa Savage and her team should do better. We were turned back for not wearing a branded t-shirt as a requirement for entry. Our press tags were not enough to enter the venue. We are journalists, not marketers. #TiwaSavage #TheDelborough”

In collaboration with her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, where she was awarded a scholarship at age 24 to pursue her dreams, the flagship course will offer free education, access to world-class training materials, and mentorship to 100 participants who will be selected based on merit.
