Madam Olaniyi burial stirs emotions in Osogbo as loved ones honour her legacy with a grand farewell marked by royal chariot and heartfelt tributes
Madam Olaniyi burial brought the city of Osogbo to a standstill over the weekend as family, friends and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
The funeral of Madam Taiwo Anike Olaniyi, Nee Adeyemi, who passed away on March 30, 2025, was nothing short of regal in scale and emotion.
Born on 22 February 1946, the late Madam Olaniyi lived a life deeply rooted in faith and service.
Her children, spanning continents from the UK to the USA and Germany, ensured that their mother received a farewell that reflected her dignity and the love she generously gave.
The Christian wake on 26 June 2025 began with the transfer of her body from the mortuary to her final resting place.
What stood out was the majestic chariot drawn by white horses, signifying the honour and reverence accorded to the deceased. Onlookers in Osogbo were visibly moved as the procession made its way through the city.
“The way she was celebrated proves how impactful her life was,” one attendee said with teary eyes. “She was more than a mother; she was a guiding light to many.”
As stories of her devotion to the Christian faith were shared at the wake, emotions ran high.
From her consistent service in the church to her role as a community matriarch, Madam Olaniyi was remembered as a pillar of strength and compassion.
If the turnout on 26 June was impressive, the main funeral ceremony on 27 June was even more grand. Family, friends, dignitaries and acquaintances travelled from far and near to Osogbo to witness the final rites.
The procession moved to The Gospel Faith Mission International at Sabo Junction, Osogbo, where a solemn service was held in her honour.
Prayers, hymns and tributes echoed throughout the church hall as loved ones reflected on her legacy.
The final resting took place at Zone 5, Oke Arungbo Community, where the family bade her a tearful goodbye.
Despite the sorrow, there was an air of fulfilment, knowing she lived a life worthy of celebration.
The reception held at Mosab Megal Hall, one of Osogbo’s premier event venues, turned out to be a gathering of joy and shared memories.
The hall brimmed with guests enjoying sumptuous meals and soulful music that evoked both nostalgia and comfort.
The late Madam Olaniyi is survived by her children: Omolara Bankole-Olaniyi (UK), Dare Olaniyi (Germany), Temidayo Adu, Bunmi Olaniyi-Olukowade, Taiwo Olaniyi and Kehinde Olaniyi (USA).
Their unwavering dedication to organising such an honourable farewell reflects the values she instilled in them.
Her passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched. The community of Osogbo was reminded of the power of faith, family, and dignity in this poignant celebration of life.
