My name is Didunoluwa Johnson.
Last December, I posted a story on Twitter about a young girl who said she had been the victim of sexual assault. Her story was that on July 30, 2016 a young man named Justin Ugonna, then 20 years old, had statutorily raped her when she was 14.

She sent me screenshots of her chats with Justin as evidence. I believed the story and posted it.

Justin and his team contacted me and denied the allegations. They provided his travel itinerary as proof that he was not in the country on the day the rape took place. The screenshots that I had believed were true turned out to have been manipulated.

I have since realized that my post was based on a fabricated narrative and it was a blunder on my part to have published the story without verifying it.

I immediately deleted the post and put up an apology to Justin Ugonna.

I am using this medium to apologize once again to Justin and his family for the grief and pain the publication has caused them.

It was not my intention to malign or cast aspersions on the character of Justin as I had no reason to do so.

I deeply regret my actions, Justin please find it in your heart to forgive a then 17 year old girl who made a grievous error.

I am sorry

Sincerely.
Didunoluwa Johnson.
