“KOFA’s Enigmatic Wale: Etim Effiong’s Performance Takes the Spotlight”

Published

on

As directed by Jude Idada , starring Daniel Etim Effiong, Gina Castel, Beverly Naya, Zainab Balogun, Kate Henshaw, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Lucy Ameh, Enyinna Nwigwe, Shawn Faqua, Bucci Franklin.

The movie Kofa is titled in Hausa, one of the indigenous languages of Nigeria meaning Door.

A blockbuster tragicomedy, a crime movie with a twist in storyline. You would never see it coming. The movie started with 8 individuals who were entirely clueless about where they were and have no memories of who they were, each in the room was taken away at gunpoint and it becomes a struggle for the rest of the group to find an escape, at the same time trying to bring back there memory of who they were. Each remembering someone else’s memory and telling the other their memory they remembered not knowing that they were reinforced to think that way. They are each a character of a science project and that’s not even the real them they remembered.

This amazing movie further portrays the revolutionary movement of the “bring back our girls”, military and the heroic deeds of fearless female and male military spies who laid down their lives to search for these missing school girls which a good number of the girls were found alive and the military spies missing in action and military spies who died in action.

The movie promotes the beauty of Lagos showing places like Ikoyi{old money Lagos}Victoria Island {new money Lagos}, Isale Eko, Marina Lagos Island, Ajegunle, Apapa, and Lekki.

Furthermore, amidst the struggle of the 8, Wale(Daniel Etim-Affiong) who was the annoying one of the 8 effortlessly entertained the audience with endless laughter, an example is when he was shot in the thigh and the bullet was removed by Nosa(Enyinna Nwigwe)the doctor among the 8, there was no way to stop the blood, the ladies were asked to take their bra off because they were in just bra and panties(they ripped them naked before they were abducted).

Wale was after the sight of breasts which he did see, making viewers wonder what is the most important thing to him at the moment.

Also saw for a long-lasting minute, Tosin(Gina Castel) the supporting actress relentlessly in just her panties and no bra on fought a macho man(Udoka Oyeka) who is one of the captives and she ended up breaking his neck just in panties and no bra on. It’s a must watch. You should see it.

At the private screening of the Movie KOFA that took place at Filmhouse IMAX lekki, 3rd of May 2023, where the casts and crew and a selected Journalists and critics had the privilege of seeing the movie.

SOCIETY REPORTERS had a chat with the lead act, Daniel Etim Effiong who played the role of Wale…. Excerpt…….

What would you regard as your major challenges in the Movie KOFA ?

One of my major challenge in the movie was having to act the majority of the movie in my underwear was something I have never done before and put me in the mind frame of focusing on acting and losing the thought that you are in underwear with your colleagues that you have never seen like that before and the second is jude style of directing, having to be in a story that is out of the box and taking the character to any length I want to take the character to was very fresh, different and challenging for me.

How would you justify your thinking out of the box in acting what brought out the best of you and what you have been used to before?

It was just fresh for me and of course it was a message to creativity, it was uncomfortable, but it was all fresh and the outcome we were all happy

In the nearest future, would you like to work with Jude ?

Ofcourse, Jude is like a brother to me and if your senior brother calls you to come and do something you have to answer and aside that jude sees the world fresh and different and anytime he writes, you would never see his storyline coming.

How do you prepare your mind when you are about to go on a movie set

I read the script and I create the character I’m playing in my mind using my experiences and the way I think combined.

Do you have a watchword that motivates you ?

I have a lot of them but one of my favorite ones is as long as it is a new day,it’s a new opportunity, every morning you have a new opportunity to do it better,to do it differently,to go for your goals.

The movie Kofa won the best film award Africa International film festival(AFRIFF),Best Actor(Daniel Etim-Effiong)and best screenplay Jude Idada.

Daniel Etim-Effiong was nominated for Best Actor in a drama series at AMVCA and Gina Castel nominated as best supporting actress in a drama series(AMVCA)

AFRIMA Hosting Rights: African Union Writes Nigeria, South Africa

Published

By

The African Union Commission (AUC) has officially invited the governments of Nigeria and South Africa to take advantage of the hosting rights benefits of the next 2 editions of the prestigious annual All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA.

In a letter bearing reference number HHS/CUL/16/170.23 and signed by the AUC’s Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, Her Excellency, Ambassador Minata Samate Cessouma, the AU said the call aligns with its policies for the strategic transformation of Africa through social integration, as outlined in AU Agenda 2063, the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance, and the AU Plan for Action on Cultural and Creative Industry.

The AU describes AFRIMA as a global platform for celebrating and developing Africa’s diverse musical talents and cultural heritage, highlighting the significant opportunities hosting the prestigious awards presents for the selected host country

“Since 2014, the African Union has been partnering and working successfully with AFRIMA to develop, celebrate and promote African music globally for the purpose of integration/inclusivity, economic prosperity and world peace via its seven core pillars: (1) Music Awards, (2) Music Festivals; (3) AFRIMA creative Academy; (4) Talent Discovery and Promotions; (5) Music Business Hub; (6) Advocacy; (7) Advisory and Policy Debates,” the letter reads.

“AFRIMA is the biggest and longest-running music award and platform in Africa, with a huge global appeal, diaspora audience, and youthful fans. The main event events of AFRIMA are usually broadcast live to over 84 countries around the world after a continental and global roadshow, with thousands of music artists, actors, celebrities, members of the diplomatic corps, professionals in the creative space, tourists, media and fans from all over the world converging on the host country.”

A letter received by the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa,  on behalf of the Nigerian government, a copy of which was seen by our correspondent, reads, “Nigeria, as a beacon in African music with huge young population, should it accept to host AFRIMA, stands a promising chance in elevating the country’s positive global presence, bolstering artistic, tourism and economic growth, fostering cultural exchange and job creation, and reinforcing a positive perception of our continent’s rich cultural heritage on a global scale.”

The successful last edition of AFRIMA was hosted and partnered by the government of the Republic of Senegal in the city of Dakar. The hosting rights of AFRIMA are usually bestowed on a country that shows capacity and commitment to meet up with the requirement and conditions.

The Acting Director for Social Development, Culture, and Sports Division, African Union Commission, Ms. Angela Martins confirmed the invitation and request to bid for the hosting rights extended to the two countries.

She said that AFRIMA provides a unique opportunity for the host country to showcase its rich cultural heritage, develop her music sector, promote tourism, and stimulate economic growth.

“This call to action comes as part of the AU’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange, unity, and economic development across the African continent. We urge the governments of Nigeria and South Africa to seize this opportunity to strengthen intra-African collaboration (in line with AFCTA) within the music industry and enhance their international visibility positively.

“AFRIMA serves as a premier platform for African artists in Africa and diaspora to showcase their talent, gain international exposure, and connect with audiences worldwide,” she said.

She added that as the bidding process is itching towards its deadline, the African Union remains committed to providing support and guidance to ensure a successful hosting of AFRIMA.

She also reiterated the AUC’s readiness to work closely with the selected host country to maximize the impact of the event on the African music industry, tourism, general economy growth, and socio-cultural landscape.

Seun Oloketuyi: A date with the godfather, Pete Edochie

How does one describe Uncle Pete Edochie?

He is an Actor’s Actor

He is a Cultural Ambassador

On Thursday, we had an early evening date, before the date, I had a very bad day and I almost cancelled. Even though I really wasn’t in the mood to see anyone, I felt that it would be rude to cancel on him, so I set out for his Enugu home.

It was easy locating his beautiful house and I was ushered into his private living room upstairs where he was busy watching EPL reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Uncle Pete is a Man U supporter by the way, and he shared with me that this started during his training in the UK.

My appointment with Uncle Pete was for 30 minutes, but the 77 year old man lectured us on the importance of friendships. He spoke almost with tears in his eyes on his friendship with Uncle Olu Jacobs and the good times they shared, including how Uncle Olu met Aunty Joke. He spoke about the wonderful acting skills of Uncle Bimbo Manuel and his love for Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade, and Stella Damasus

As he grows Uncle Pete is pained with the way our society is today especially the LGBTQ trend and the way youths no longer favour hard work.

He further expressed that he is upset with bloggers and he wonders why they twist his words all the time.

I say thank you to my Uncle Pete for adding to the knowledge in my upcoming documentary on Nollywood. I thank him for praying for the success of BON 2024, and also for speaking so passionately from his heart in the interview which will be on my YouTube Channel next week. I thank him for the gift too.

Chairman, Advisory Board BON Awards,
