The EFCC has pledged to investigate former Zamfara State Governor and current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, over allegations of embezzling N528 billion during his tenure.
The accusations include the misappropriation of N290 billion from the Federation Account, N133 billion from the Joint Account, and N105 billion in unaccounted loans. The APC Young Leaders Alliance (APC-YLA) submitted a petition during a protest at the EFCC headquarters on May 9, 2025, demanding accountability.
EFCC officials, including Acting Director of Security Idowu Adedeji, assured prompt attention to the petition. The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) also called for transparency in the handling of the funds allocated to the state.
