Brand Journalists urges President-elect on choice of Information Minister

Brand Journalists’ Association of Nigeria (BJAN) has congratulated the president-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the March 28 presidential election and charged him to ensure that professionalism come to play when making choice of Information Minister in his cabinet.

The Chairman of the association, Mr Goddie Ofose stated this in Lagos recently that the President-elect should ensure that whoever that will be saddled with the responsibility of the country’s spokesperson should have brand management background.

According to him, ‘’It is imperative as Brand Journalists to congratulate the president-elect for his victory and also to set agenda which is part of our job in ensuring that professionalism come to play in the choice of Information Minister.

‘’We charge the President-elect that whoever emerges as the new information minister should have brand management experience, be it public relations, advertising, marketing or media.

As part of the change we all crave for, information ministry requires a thorough bred professional who will be vast in knowledge to manage the country’s image within and outside the shores of Nigeria.’’

He said that, ‘’It is on record that Nigeria had played significant roles in managing image crises of some African countries like South Africa, Liberia, Lesotho, Seychelles and others which has placed us in a vantage position ahead of other countries in Africa.

He noted that this initiative should not been seen as another Brand Nigeria Project, it should be seen as purely putting professionals to manage affairs of the nation’s ministries.

Brand Journalists’ Association of Nigeria (BJAN) is the umbrella body of practising journalists covering Brands, Public Relations, Marketing and advertising bit in Nigeria.
