Sitting in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, the Chief Magistrate Court I, has remanded a businessman, Mamuda Duma, for allegedly impregnating and then aborting a three-month pregnancy of a housewife.
The defendant was arraigned and there after remanded following a complaint lodged by the woman’s husband, Ahmadu Lawal.
Lawal, who is from Yola town in Yola South LGA, told the court that the defendant, who resides at Wurojabbe in Yola North LGA, was having an affair with his wife.
He narrated to the court that he learnt of the affair last year and had called the man on the phone three different times to warn him, only for him to continue the relationship.
Also adding that the man made his wife abort her three-month pregnancy, after which he reported the defendant to the Police headquarters in Yola.
He narrated that the defendant and some of his friends pleaded with him to withdraw the abortion case, promising that he would stop seeing his wife.
He said he withdrew the case, only for the defendant to continue the affair.
The defendant, however, denied the allegations when they were read to him, prompting the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda, to order that he be remanded in prison custody.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case to September 1,2025, for commencement of trial.
