President Tinubu Returns to Abuja

President Bola Tinubu arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 1:20 am on Thursday, concluding his two-week official trip to Japan and Brazil. Government officials greeted the president on August 28, 2025, as he stepped off the plane. Among those present were National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu; his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; and other ministers and special advisers.

A Journey of Diplomacy and Economic Agreement

The president had left Abuja on Friday, August 15, 2025, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before heading to Japan. In Japan, he attended the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in the City of Yokohama from August 20 to 22. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also held crucial bilateral meetings and met with the chief executive officers of several Japanese companies with investments in Nigeria.

From Japan, he traveled to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, on a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. During his time in Brazil, the two countries signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering key sectors like aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture. Tinubu also welcomed the imminent return of Brazil’s state-owned oil giant, Petrobras, to Nigeria. Additionally, the new agreements included a Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which will allow for direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo, operated by Air Peace.
