Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad have arrested two suspected traffic robbers said to be notorious for terrorising commuters around the Ketu and Mile 12 axis of the state.
This was made known in a statement shared by the Rapid Response Squad on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.
The suspects, identified as Yemi Aparaojo, popularly known as Asa (33), and Samuel Adekunle, alias Omo-jo–Ibo (37), were arrested around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday by RRS officers patrolling the area.
According to the police, the suspects and two others, who are currently at large, had last week robbed a passerby of ₦25,000 after pestering him for money. When the man attempted to assist them, they reportedly assaulted him and forcefully took his cash.
Luck, however, ran out on the suspects when the victim spotted one of them, Adekunle, in the area on Tuesday and quickly alerted RRS operatives. The officers immediately swooped in and apprehended the duo, while two others fled through Ketu Market.
The statement said, “The operatives of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of Lagos Police Command, on Tuesday morning arrested two notorious traffic robbers operating around Ketu and Mile 12, Kosofe.
“The suspects: Yemi Aparaojo, popularly known as Asa, a 33-year-old and Samuel Adekunle, a.k.a Omo-jo–Ibo, a 37-year-old, were arrested by the operatives around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
“The duo along with two others last week at about noon robbed a passerby of his N25,000 while the victim was trying to assist them with some money when the group pestered him. The gang thereafter assaulted the man.
“The victim on sighting the leader of the gang, Adekunle, on Tuesday alerted RRS operatives, who rounded up the suspects. Two members of the gang escaped through Ketu market.”
The RRS Commander, CSP Sola Jejeloye, said the arrests followed the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, to reinforce security along major traffic corridors prone to criminal activity.
The statement added, “The Commander, Rapid Response Squad, CSP Sola Jejeloye had in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh reinforced Response riders at Ketu and Mile 12 to stem the tide of crime on the corridor.
“Jejeloye has directed that the suspects be charged to court immediately while the team intensifies efforts to arrest other members of the gang.”
