Pastor Kelechi Benwosely Esimogu has been arrested by the Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over an allegations of a large-scale contract scam involving hundreds of millions of naira.

According to reports, Esimogu was apprehended on Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. at a popular hospitality spot in Wuse, Abuja. The arrest was said to have been carried out without incident, after which she was taken into custody for questioning.

The suspect, who also serves as Group Pastor of Powercity International in Port Harcourt, is accused of obtaining huge sums from private companies under the guise of securing lucrative NDDC contracts.

Petitioners alleged that she claimed to wield strong influence within the commission, convincing them she could facilitate the award of high-value projects.

However, the promised contracts reportedly never materialised. Sources say the funds were instead diverted, with some allegedly channelled into political activities.

Investigators revealed that multiple companies filed similar petitions, prompting a broader probe into the matter. Payments were reportedly made in installments over time, but all efforts by both complainants and authorities to reach Esimogu initially failed, as she allegedly evaded arrest by frequently changing locations.

“She was invited several times but failed to honour the invitations,” a source said, adding that she had recently been active in Imo State, where she was reportedly making political moves ahead of upcoming elections.

Authorities are now examining whether proceeds from the alleged scheme were used to fund political mobilisation and outreach efforts.
