The National Assembly has blocked Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming her duties despite completing a six-month suspension.

The Kogi Central senator had written to the Assembly stating that her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, had elapsed, and expressed readiness to return to plenary.

However, in a response signed by Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria, she was informed that the matter remains before the Court of Appeal.

“The subject matter of your suspension is presently before the Court of Appeal,” the letter read in part. “Until the judicial process is completed, and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption. You will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision as soon as the matter is resolved.”

Senator Natasha had previously attempted to resume on July 12, following a Federal High Court ruling directing the Senate to review her suspension. She was, however, denied access to the chamber.

Both the senator and the National Assembly have since appealed aspects of the judgment, which are now pending before the appellate court.
