Contrary to public posture, the raging conflict between Governor Ibikunle Amosun and returnee state political leader, Aremo Segun Osoba is greatly intensified.
Ironically investigations revealed the reason for this enhanced quarrel to the highly reported peace move that returned former Governor Osoba to the party.
Osoba, who defected to the Social Democratic Party towards the last general election returned to the party last week.
But unusually, he made his return to the party outside Ogun state his political strong hold.
The event which witnessed the attendance of who is who in the party in the southwest took place at his Lagos, home.
With governor Amosun absent, the development resulted in huge speculations.
Fresh information available to us however revealed that Governor Amosun was actually in the dark about the development.
‘’It was a shock to him..he didn’t know the specifics of what was going on, he only learnt of it through informal channels’’ a source stated.
we learnt he immediately staged an emergency meeting of stakeholders in the state after reports of return of Aremo Osoba hit town.
‘’the result was the official statement by the Ogun state chapter of the party that it is not aware Aremo Osoba has returned to the party after he was received by national leaders such as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bisi Akande and others’’ a source said
Added digs further reveal the reason behind the state chapter of the party’s proclamation.
‘’the party structure currently lays in the hand of Governor Amosun and it is naturally playing out his script’’ a source divulged.
we learnt at stake is the battle for who controls power in the state in 2019.
Talks in town has it that Osoba’s return is meant to boost the aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola popularly called Yayi.
The Senator representing Lagos West is said to be gunning for the number one seat in Ogun state in 2019.
He is said to be the favoured candidate of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his power block.
Yayi’s incursion into the politics of Ogun state in 2014/ 2015 resulted in headlong clash with Governor Amosun who discern his objective and was unwilling to encourage rival power block to grow in the state.
To protect his legacy, the Governor is keen to produce his successor in 2019.
An ambition the promoters of Yayi for governor greatly threaten.
And though in the same party, he is currently at odds with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other promoters of the Yayi for Ogun governor aspiration.
we learnt the currently plot Amosun is trying to stifle is that Aremo Osoba with his return as state party leader would sponsor Senator Adeola’s nomination as a party candidate for the 2019 election – and Asiwaju Tinubu and other backers at the National level would ensure ratification by National executive members of the party.
We confirmed gubernatorial candidates are determined at the national level of political parties.
‘’So getting someone of Osoba’s stature to return and act as sponsor of nomination of Yayi is seen as a political master stroke’’ an insider pointed out .
‘’That is why Gov Amosun has gotten the state chapter of the party to deny Osoba..if he achieves his aim, this would greatly jeopardise the perceived plot against him’’.
We learnt this scenario is creating rumpus in the Ogun state APC and stakeholders within the state and beyond.
And has naturally heighten political strife between Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Aremo Olusegun Osoba as well as their supporters and their sympathisers as sides are taken and switched with growing knowledge and varying interpretations of issues at stake.
