Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed on Tuesday night after a fire outbreak gutted some section of the Arena Nigerian Army Shopping Complex along Agege Motor Road in Oshodi, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a post on X, saying the fire started at about 6:06 p.m.
“There’s a fire outbreak inside Arena Shopping Mall along Agege Motor Road, Oshodi. Men of @LagosRescue are on the ground to extinguish the inferno,” the agency stated.
Emergency responders were seen at the scene battling the blaze and working to contain it. As of press time, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage had not been determined.
The incident comes four months after the same market was hit by a fire in August, reigniting concerns over safety measures in major commercial centres across Lagos.
It also follows a deadly Christmas Eve fire in Lagos, where at least three people were killed and 12 others injured after a blaze engulfed the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martins Street, Lagos Island.
