A magistrate’s court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami freed Ms Emmanson after the police withdrew the five charges hurriedly filed against her.

The withdrawal followed consultations between the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and key stakeholders in the aviation sector.

Mr Keyamo said the resolution was reached after reviewing the incident, considering appeals from well-meaning individuals, and taking into account the remorse shown by those involved.

According to the minister, Ibom Air agreed to drop its complaint over the 10 August incident that led to Ms Emmanson’s arrest.

Ms Emmanson was arraigned on Monday and granted bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum, but was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the conditions.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments and applied for the case to be withdrawn. The application was granted, leading to Emmanson’s discharge.
