The disgraced comedian, whose sexual assault conviction was overturned in 2021, and his wife, Camille, have owned the Upper East Side brownstone since 1980..
Bill Cosby is selling his longtime Manhattan home, which he listed earlier this week for $7 million.
The disgraced comedian and actor has owned the Lenox Hill townhouse on East 61st Street since 1980, according to public records. How much they paid at the time is unknown.
Cosby, 87, and his wife, Camille, are facing foreclosure on the townhouse, which is at the center of a lawsuit filed at the end of last year, according to court documents. Crain’s first reported news of the townhouse listing.
CitiMortgage, the lender of the Cosbys’ $4.2 million home loan, filed the suit alleging that the Cosbys defaulted on the loan, which was taken out in 2010, records show.
A February filing by the couple’s legal team denied the allegations in the CitiMortgage suit and argued that CitiMortgage overstated the debt in their lawsuit.
Dating to the 19th century, the 20-foot-wide brownstone spans approximately 5,000 square feet across its four stories. It’s located in the Treadwell Farm Historic District, which spans the blocks of East 61st and 62nd streets between Second and Third avenues.
The ground-floor entrance leads to an eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room with a wood-burning fireplace—one of five in the home—and a sunroom, which leads out to the landscaped backyard, according to the listing with Adam Schneider of Corcoran. He declined to comment.
The second level serves as the main living space and has 12-foot ceilings, original crown molding, two fireplaces and “intricate 12-inch mosaic hardwood flooring,” the listing said.
There are a total of six bedrooms, four bathrooms and two half-baths, with the top-floor primary suite featuring skylights, floor-to-ceiling windows, a fireplace and French doors that open to a Juliet balcony. The home also has an elevator.
In 2018, Cosby was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison. In 2021, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the conviction, citing violations of his due process rights. Cosby had served nearly three years in prison before the conviction was overturned.
A representative for Cosby didn’t respond to a request for comment.
