For any incumbent governor, the task of picking a worthy successor is as herculean as a camel passing through the eye of a needle. The governor of Ogun State, Senator IbikunleAmosun is not immune to this challenge as well.With his sight set on the Ogun West Senatorial District as the zone where his successor will come from, the governor is said to be in a fix over who to eventually anoint for the plum job.According to sources close to the Chartered Accountant turned Politician, the governor and leaders of the party appear wedged between choosing the Chief of Staff to the Governor, ToluOdebiyi and a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. AbiodunAkinlade to pick up the APC guber ticket. Incidentally, It was gathered that while the suave personality and the politically inclined background of ToluOdebiyi are being considered, the mixture of both grassroots popularity and sense of service to the people, are said to be the stand-out attributes of Akinlade that has endeared him to the governor and other stakeholders.While the coast is not yet clear especially with the number of aspirants coming from Ogun West, its obvious that the Governor, his party, the APC, and elders in the Gateway State are keeping the game close to their chests. For Governor Amosun, its herculean to handpick anybody for now, but it appears his shortlists are reducing by the day. Head or tail, its going to be an interesting political season in the Gateway State.
