The Lagos state government has announced traffic diversion on major roads ahead of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS golden jubilee.

The event is scheduled for May 27 to 29.

Bolanle Ogunlola, deputy director of public affairs at the state’s ministry of transportation, issued the advisory in a statement on Monday.

President Bola Tinubu will deliver a speech on the economic achievements of the regional bloc at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island.

Ogunlola said the advisory is aimed at ensuring smooth flow of traffic and enhancing security around NIIA House and Eko Hotels during the event.

According to the advisory, motorists heading to Lagos Island or the mainland from the Eko Hotel roundabout are advised to use Adetokunbo Ademola road to Civic Centre, then connect to Ozumba Mbadiwe road.

From there, they should continue to Bonny Camp roundabout and turn right towards Lagos Island or the mainland.

Alternatively, drivers can use the Falomo ramp near Law School to complete their journey.

Motorists exiting Ajose Adeogun or Adetokunbo Ademola via the Eko Hotel roundabout are advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa street, proceed to Akin Adesola, and turn left at the junction to access Ahmadu Bello Way or Adeola Odeku.

A right turn at the same junction leads to Falomo Bridge or the Law School route.

Those leaving Lagos Continental Hotel en route to Bonny Camp should take Kofo Abayomi and connect to Kilimanjaro Junction on Ozumba Mbadiwe. From there, they can either turn left to Bonny Camp or right towards Lekki.

Motorists approaching Kofo Abayomi from Bonny Camp are advised to turn right at Kilimanjaro junction for access to Lagos Continental Hotel.

The statement advised commuters from Independence or McEwen Bridge to turn left at the IMB Building on Ahmadu Bello Way by Atlantic City, then connect to Akin Adesola and continue through the inner streets to Eko Hotel.

Ogunlola added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA will be deployed across the affected routes to provide guidance and reduce inconvenience for road users.
